Ricie Ada Phillips Quesenberry

Ricie Ada Phillips Quesenberry, our precious mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, of Indian Valley, joined her Heavenly Father and all her loved ones in Heaven on Saturday, October 1, 2011. She is singing with the Heavenly Choir just like she sang at her home church each Sunday, Indian Valley Pentecostal Church in Indian Valley, where she was a faithful member for 62 years. She ministered at many churches over the years and also taught Sunday School at her home church until about one year ago when her health started failing. She loved good gospel singing and would rejoice openly to her Lord and Savior. Her day always started with reading her Bible and praying in earnest before she ate breakfast. The last thing she did each day was kneel down by her bedside to pray thanking God for His many blessings and then she would pray that each of her family would be saved and be able to meet her in Heaven. She lived a good Christian life and was a shining light to everyone who knew her. Our father passed away September 27, 1947, leaving Mom with three small children to raise, 8 months, 3 years and 6 years old. She was a Mother and Father both to us but never complained at all. We will miss her terribly – we LOVE you Mom! She dearly loved all her family: her children, grandchildren, sister, nieces, and nephews and all their children. She was born October 14, 1921, and would have been 90 years young this birthday. We had planned a big celebration for her but she will now be celebrating in Heaven. She was preceded in death by: Husband, Arnold Quesenberry; Son, David Jerry Quesenberry; Father & Mother, Ulysus & Alma Phillips; Sisters, Mazie Quesenberry, Hassie Lyons, & Nellie Phillips; Brothers, Wavely Phillips, LeRoy Phillips and his wife Myrtle Phillips.

She is survived by her loving children: Jack & Linda Quesenberry of Christiansburg, and Shirley & Doug Phillips of Indian Valley; her grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Granddaughter, Melissa & Quintin Wright of Christiansburg; Grandson, David Phillips and girl friend, Mary, of Blacksburg; her precious Sister, Elizabeth Sutphin of Indian Valley; all of her nieces & nephews and their families whom she loved very dearly and who have been so good to Mom over the years: Mozell Quesenberry, Aaron Sutphin, Glenna Cox, John Sutphin, Kathryn Gerald, Vera Hall, Katie Moore, James Lyons, Alma Gallimore, Iris Williams, Duane Lyons, Anita Dean, Lana Blankenship, Danny Phillips, Richard Phillips, Debbie Woolwine, Jackie Cox, and Kenny Phillips; also, very special to our Mother was Paul Hollandsworth & his wife, Linda; his children, Michelle Hollandsworth and Taylor, Darrell Hollandsworth & fiance Tara Hall (who is also Mom’s great-niece). Two very special children to Mom were Alana Haley Snare and Morgan Grace Hollandsworth. Also surviving are brother-in-law, Sterling Quesenberry & wife, Barbara; sisters-in-law, Ruby Evans, Orpha & Guy Sadler. We want to thank Mom’s next-door neighbors (Tara Orlando, Kathy Stone, David & Genieve Hatcher, Columbus & Loveline McGrady) and her church family who were so good to her.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Willis Full Gospel Church (163 Burks Fork Road in Willis) with Rev. Joe Cox & Rev. Kenneth Poston. Burial will be at the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery in Indian Valley. Visitation will be Monday, October 3, 2011 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church.
