
William Lawrence Howell
William Lawrence Howell, 77, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2009.
He was preceded in death by Father William Jackson Howell, Mother Rhetta Aquilla Akers Howell, Sister Iva Carroll, Daughter in law Linda G. Howell, and his first wife and mother of his children Janet S. Howell.
He was a veteran, who served during the Korean Conflict, and was wounded during combat.
He was the founder and owner of Howell’s Auto Sales for over 50 years where he repaired and sold countless vehicles for numerous people. He was always willing to help anyone at anytime or just sit and enjoy a lengthy conversation. Not much could rival his passion for his antique cars and trucks and his love of visiting car shows and cruise-ins. He was also a racing fan and competitor in his early years. He shared his knowledge and supported his sons, “Bo” and Tony, in their racing achievements. He enjoyed going to the Floyd Country Store every Friday night where he would listen and flatfoot to the music. He was very well known and respected by everyone in the community. He will forever be missed, especially by his family and friends.
He is survived by Children: Deborah Weeks, Timothy “Bo” Howell, Tony and wife Linda Howell, Amy Howell, and Christopher Howell; Sisters & Brother-In-Law, Edith Hennrich and Jean Mosley & husband Steve; 8 Grandchildren; 2 Great Grandchildren; 9 Nephews; 4 Nieces; and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment to follow in the Duncan Chapel Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 from 5-8 PM at the Maberry Funeral Home, as well as on Saturday from 11:00 am until the funeral to begin at 1:00 PM.
