Charlie Ray Fitzgerald

Charlie Ray Fitzgerald, 84 of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 8, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Clifton & Flora Hite Fitzgerald; brothers, Russell Fitzgerald, Clifton Fitzgerald; sisters, Thelma Fitzgerald, Odessia Quesenberry, and Cartensie Lehl. He was an Air Force veteran, retired from the Roanoke Times after 43 years, and was a member of Garden City Grace Brethren Church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elsie Hall Fitzgerald; sons & daughter-in-law, Michael R. Fitzgerald, Gary W. & Scarlet L. Fitzgerald, David L. Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Gary W. Fitzgerald, II, Scott B. Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Gray Fitzgerald; and beloved dog, Katie.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Mitchell and Pastor Doug Witt officiating. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. and from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the funeral home.
