
Opal Hundley Young
Opal Joyce Hundley Young, 77, of Copper Hill and Floyd, departed this life for her heavenly home, surrounded by her family on September 5, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Guy and Flora Poff Hundley, her sisters and brothers in-law, Reba and Carl Craighead and Genova and Early Conner and brother Burton Hundley.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, Keith Baer Young, her daughters and sons in-law , Karen and Mark Hodges (Willis), Sheree and Mack Montgomery (Willis), her sons and daughters in-law, Keith Barry and Sharon Young (Check) and Terry and Brenda Young (Salem) and Curtis Sloane (Roanoke). Also, surviving are her precious grandchildren: Dana Young (Roanoke), Brandon and Angela Hodges (Willis), Matthew Montgomery and Erin Yearout-Patton (Powhatan) Ashleylachell Young (Richmond), Sheena Young (Roanoke), Mack Montgomery Jr. (Willis), Mekaila Young (Check), Arlene Montgomery (Greenville, MS), Michael Young (Salem) and Kara Young (Check). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Zachariah Hodges, Malachi Montgomery, Lily Young, Ella Hodges, Dylan and Tyler Young. Surviving sisters in-law are Catherine Williams of Roanoke, Hazel Young of Christiansburg and Marie Young of Norfolk as well as many nieces and nephews.
Nanny Opal was always a care-giver, caring for her family and others before herself. She loved her family dearly as well as all animals. She will be greatly missed even though the family knows that she is free of pain and in the loving arms of the Lord.
The family is especially thankful to Sherry Reed, Karen King, Kelly Sweeney from Carilion Hospice who did so much to make her last days on this earth easier and more enjoyable and to help the family though this time of life.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church.
