John Talmadge Handy, Sr.

John Talmadge Handy, Sr. 79 of Pilot passed away in the Salem VA Medical Center Tuesday July 27, 2010 after a long illness.

Preceded in death by his Parents, Walter H. and Dollie Maude Brammer Handy; Wife, Marie S. Handy; and Daughter, Mary Ann “Annie” Horst.

Survived by Daughters & Son-In-Law, Elsie M. Grimes and Patricia A. & Alan Brooks; Son & Daughter-In-Law, John T., Jr. & Carol Handy; Brother & Sister-In-Law, James A. & Louella Handy; Sister, Lorraine “Pat” Gillespie & the late Clarence E. Gillespie; Special Nephew, Wayne Gillespie; Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

SFC Handy served his country for 20 years in the Army having served in Korea and Vietnam. After the military he worked as a police officer in Georgia.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday Aug. 1, 2010 at the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren with Rev. Marvin Wade officiating. Burial to follow at the Beaver Creek Cemetery with Military Honors by the Virginia Army National Guard. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday July 31, 2010 at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd.
