
Vera Mae Harmon
Our precious loving mother and grandmother, Vera Mae Harmon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2011, surrounded by her family and friends at the age of 91.
She was born on April 18, 1919, the daughter of Benjamin and Nannie Harman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard, Sr. and a son, Richard, and a son-in-law, Earl Moles; her brothers, Ezess and June Harman; and a sister, Reva Hylton.
Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law: Loretta and John Epperly, and Peggy Moles; her sons and daughter-in-laws: Willard, Jr. (Billy) and Annie Harmon, Roger and Vaughnia Harmon, Tommy and Bonita Harmon, and Patsy Harmon; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren; 4 sister-in-laws, Virgie Nester, Edna Jarrell, Lucinda Harman, and Eula Harman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered for her love and concern for family and friends, her wonderful cooking, tending to her garden, and especially her beautiful quilts and needlework she enjoyed making. She will also be remembered for her strong independence, hard work, and faith in the Lord.
Flowers will be appreciated but the family requests donations be made to Dillon’s Chapel, (she was so proud of her little white church), C/O Dale Belcher, 2706 Black Ridge Road SW, Floyd, VA 24091.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Belcher and Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in the Topeco Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, February 28, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Maberry Funeral Home.
